On 30 October, Galileo 4 Mobility held its third and last Advisory Group meeting in Thessaloniki. Hosted by partner CERTH, the day provided the opportunity for the G4M consortium to gather valuable feedback from AG members on key issues related to the project, discuss the latest developments of the pilot sites, and participate in a dedicated workshop on Mobility as a Service (MaaS). The second part of the day saw a technical visit to the Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT/CERTH). And of course, the AG members and the Consortium got to try the taxi-sharing service by partners CERTH and Taxiway, which [...]
On 4 October, Galileo 4 Mobility visited the Luxembourg Parliament for the one day conference "Space solutions for sustainability on Earth", organised by the Ministry of Economy-the Luxembourg Space Agency, the University of Luxembourg-Faculty of Law, Economics, and Finance (FDEF), the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) with the support of the Chamber of Deputies and the European Commission-JRC. During the conference, Project Coordinator Marti Jofre presented Galileo 4 Mobility as the reference EU project on the use of European GNSS for improving urban transportation. Furthermore, he participated on the round table on the interest of GNSS technology for that purpose. A [...]
The Galileo 4 Mobility project is happy to announce that the MaaS aggregator pilot in Barcelona has been completed. During the pilot, project partner RACC tested how Galileo technology improved the accuracy of the services in its app CityTrips (previously called RACC Trips). Data analysis is still ongoing but some preliminary results have been already disclosed by Marti Massot, Mobility and ITS Project Manager at RACC. Can you give us a quick introduction into the CityTrips app? CityTrips is an application that gathers the mobility offer of Barcelona, Madrid and other big cities in Spain. In the app, bike sharing, moto-sharing, car-sharing, public [...]
From 16 to 19 September, the Swiss Mobility Arena will take place in Bern, and Galileo 4 Mobility will be present. The project will be presented by PILDO during the session "Integrating Shared Bikes with other Services". Points on the agenda are the project's pilots, Galileo in general, and the common MaaS architecture that was followed for designing the mobility services. Fore more information about the event and the full programme, have a look at the website.
On 11 June, Galileo 4 Mobility co-organised a Stakeholders Workshop on MaaS technologies during the UITP Global Public Transport Summit in Stockholm. The workshop gathered six EU-funded projects that each focus on MaaS from a different perspective: Shift2MaaS (in collaboration with COHESIVE), IMOVE, My-TRAC and SMARTE), and Galileo 4 Mobility. The workshop welcomed approximately 30 attendees, both project consortium members as well as external stakeholders. Goal of the workshop was to bring together MaaS experts from different industries and viewpoints, in order to establish connections for potential future collaborations. A full report of the session is available here! Introductory presentations [...]
Self-driving, or autonomous, vehicles are currently being tested in different areas and some are currently in use in restricted zones. However, the operation of autonomous vehicles on roads that are open to traffic is still very limited. To address this issue, the European Global Navigation Satellite Systems Agency (GSA) and the EU-funded project Galileo4Mobility are launching a joint call for Expressions of Interest aiming to select an autonomous vehicle (POD) to operate a public transportation service within a predefined but open to traffic area. The selected company will have to provide the vehicle (POD) for the pilot duration (4-6 months) and the technical development needed in order [...]
The first Galileo 4 Mobility has officially kicked off! Launched in early May, this pilot is led by research institute CERTH/HIT and transportation company Taxiway and aims to fight congestion in Thessaloniki’s city centre through a taxi-sharing service. We spoke to Josep Maria Salanova Grau, Associate Researcher at CERTH/HIT, and Theodoros Stavridis, president of Taxiway, about the ins and outs of the pilot in Thessaloniki. Can you briefly discuss the pilot, and elaborate on how the service will benefit from Galileo technology? The pilot in Thessaloniki aims at reducing traffic congestion in the city centre by reducing the amount of [...]
